Dunwoody Real Estate
The City of Dunwoody, located minutes from the heart of Atlanta, is one of the newest cities in the north Metro Atlanta area. While residents have used the name Dunwoody for years and years, it was more of a general area than a well-definied city. A picturesque community featuring many of the metro-area's top dining, shopping, schools and recreation, Dunwoody officially gained city status and incorporated on December 1, 2008. While a youngster among cities in the state of Georgia, Dunwoody retains a long and rich history dating back hundreds of years.
The City of Dunwoody is located in the most northern tip of DeKalb County, bordered by Fulton County on the north and west, Gwinnett County on the northeast, and Interstate 285 to the south. Officially, the city limit extends only to the DeKalb County line in the north.
Whether visiting the City of Dunwoody or a new resident, take a stroll around the shops at Perimeter Mall, take the kids to check out the Dunwoody Nature Center, or even brush up on a foreign language with a continuing education class at Georgia Perimeter College. You will find that Dunwoody, though a new city, has the settled and comfortable feeling of a city that has been around for awhile.
Since the construction of Perimeter Mall in the early 1970s, Dunwoody has grown to encompass many well-known shopping and mixed used developments, along with many of the Atlanta metro area’s top restaurants. The bustling "perimeter" area, as the shops and restaurants around Perimeter Mall is known to locals, is a vibrant and rich shopping and dining hot-spot that rivals Atlanta, without having to travel into the city!
